About this deal

Standing in the Swiss Alps, the mountain's imposing, jagged silhouette has made it has long been one of the most recognizable natural formations in the country — not to mention a challenge for alpinists around the world, with its 14,690-foot (4,478 meters) height. The product's name is a combination of Tobler's name and the Italian word torrone (a type of nougat). This triangular shape of toblerone was gotten from the shape of the Matterhorn located in Swiss Alps.

In 1908, Emil Baumann, the cousin of Theodor Tobler, created the unique recipe consisting of milk chocolate including white nougat, almonds, and honey. These rules regulate who can use the term "made in Switzerland" as well as the white cross on a red background. The shape of the chocolate bar was inspired by the Matterhorn mountain located near the Tobler factory in Switzerland. In a statement to the BBC, the company said new packaging would include a “distinctive new Toblerone typeface and logo that draw further inspiration from the Toblerone archives and the inclusion of our founder, Tobler’s, signature”.According to Mondelēz, Toblerone is currently enjoyed in more than 100 countries and is the top chocolate brand in travel retail. According to the report, Toblerone packaging will now read "Established in Switzerland" rather than "of Switzerland". Five years later, Toblerone was acquired by food conglomerate Mondelēz, which also owns brands like Philadelphia and Trident, plus other big names in chocolate like Milka and Cadbury. Theodor was clever enough to use the controversy to the brand's benefit, considering it a marketing opportunity.

In 1899, at the age of 68, he founded Fabrique de Chocolate Berne alongside his two sons, Theodor and Emil. After discovering white nougat, Theodor Tobler (Jean Tobler's son) and Emil Baumann (Theodor Tobler’s cousin) invent a unique chocolate bar, Toblerone! Nevertheless, a silhouette of the Matterhorn appears on the modern Toblerone packaging, as seen in the photo above right. Step 3: put some spoons of melted chocolate into the mold you want to use for its shape and spread it evenly and fill up all edges to avoid holes appearing on the chocolate when you’re done.If you look closely at the Matterhorn on the Toblerone package, you will see the outline of a bear camouflaged into the mountain. Toblerone's pyramid-shaped pieces, which are studded with almond and honey nougat, are intended to resemble the Swiss peak that currently features on the bar's packaging.
