About this deal

He gives motherly energy, even though he’s training to be an Arbiter and shoots loads of people in the last chapter. An Zhe turns just in time to catch the shadow that flickers across Lu Feng's face, like a stone skimming over water.

Mushrooms (or toadstools) is a term given to the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting bodies that certain fungi produce. And while this could have easily been one of those rather predatory-feeling romances…I don’t get that vibe. The one where Lu Feng cuts open the corpse of a man he just shot to reveal a bunch of wriggling parasite…bleggh! full of odd, choppy sentences and dialogues that don't flow well at all - it made for a difficult reading experience that sadly hampered my enjoyment of the story. These slender mushrooms are a common addition to hot pot or ramen bowls; use them in this recipe for Tofu Steak With Japanese Mushrooms. They’re also native to North America and particularly abundant in the Pacific Northwest from late spring to early fall. Fun fact: Baby button mushrooms, criminis, and portobellos are all the same species at various points in their life cycle.

Book two dials up the plot to a thousand with fast paced action, twists and turns, and a truly despair-inducing apocalyptic vibe. His perspective on the story events and his exploration of what it means to live as a human is equal parts endearing, funny and bittersweet. or are they supposed to incinerate dead bodies and an zhe’s group (and an ze’s group) just ignored the rules? How his relationship with Lu Feng progresses feels natural and I became invested, because as much as An Zhe learns, there is stuff he still doesn't know, and it's a treat to read! This was a very satisfying second half to this tale that is a blend of gritty sci-fi apocalypse and slow-burn enemies-to-lovers queer romance. Normally I love tragedy, but I actually stopped reading to double check it had a happy ending because I honestly couldn't take it if things didn't work out for our titular mushroom in the end (it does).

Key features: probably our most familiar toadstool, with a brilliant scarlet or orange cap covered with white, wart-like spots. Let me just start off by saying that I'm usually not into the whole sci-fi genre nor do I care much for it, but the way they handled it in the story was honestly perfect, especially how this takes place in a post-apocalyptic world so it just WORKS. all this resulted in me only being distantly interested in the story and not really emotionally connecting to it. Not only that, but he does have compassion and a sarcastic side; we see that with how he interacts with An Zhe.which can shapeshift into a human, and an aloof, dreaded judge, the arbriter, who has the blood of a thousand people on his hands. Disguising himself as a human, he makes his way to the nearest human base in a desperate attempt to reunite with his spore. after being the arbriter, never once did the people he tried to protect reach out to him for help because their initial reaction upon seeing him was fear and avoidance. Only gods have the unwavering power and role to take on the task of deciding who deserves to live and who must die. All in all, I’m grateful for the enthusiasm of the several people who suggested this book to me on Twitter.

I knew that it was leading up to this moment of reunion between An Zhe and his spore the whole time, it was just a matter of how we were going to get there. Mushrooms also add juiciness to burger patties and a boost of umami to stir-fries and noodle dishes. That last volume (Revelations) had me on the edge of my seat ngl, but the ending made up for all the angsty moments. They often look bizarre and freakish, sometimes even resembling body parts from ears and brains to unmentionable others.very pleased with how the novel was wrapped up, though i would have liked to actually see lu feng and an zhe's journey to locate the cave and an ze's original bones (and some of the sexual subtext in the extras felt unnecessary. The fact that this rule was followed a few times means someone one the editing team was aware of it, but the failure to apply it to the entire text indicates to me an overall lack of rigor. An Zhe saw Lu Feng lower his gun and expressionlessly wipe it down while leaning against the wall, seeming not to care about anything. Where to look: among leaf litter in deciduous woods, especially with beech in chalky soils in the south. I genuinely have no words except that this was so incredibly surprising, I did not expect any of the twists and turns that happened in this.
