You fall in and it's hard to step back out, the way this book is written it just pulls you in and takes you there. Cynthia and her family are relocating to the country from London after the tragic killing of her older brother.

I feel a bit like some things weren’t disclosed that I wanted to know or that were built up to be a thing like Thomas just excepting that Cyn (see I love her I respect her, I love reading worlds man! When it turns out the brothers have been keeping secrets from her, secrets that link back to the life Cynthia thought she had left behind in London, she realises that not everything is as it seems. I loved listening to this book, The narration was fabulous, Bringing the story to life in a way that made you want to keep listening. Candice has caught the feeling of current teens - at least as far as I, a mumble years old bookseller, can tell! There is something about Isaac she cannot quite get enough of … but her father wants her to partner up with someone like Thomas, someone who will be ‘better for her future prospects’.

But I vividly remember girls in my school who would talk of boyfriends involved in certain activities. This is a brilliant read and it leaves you both wanting a sequel and realising not every story has a happy end. Candice started utilizing the internet in 2015 to tell her own motherhood story, keen to show that young black families weren't just surviving but thriving, and her straight-talking, original content really struck a chord with fans and brands alike.Certain experiences or environmental surroundings don't allow them to appreciate that life has so much more value. Cynthia starts a new school and the main story unfolds as she falls into a complicated romantic situation.

She finds herself unexpectedly intertwined between two brothers - Thomas, head boy and Isaac, his adopted Black brother. Now, whilst I don't want to take away the subject matter from this book, I really feel that this book lacked a plot. Cuts Both Ways is a riveting mixture of contemporary, romance and mystery that completely captures your mind. The twists aren't exactly twists, but that's not the point; the point is how the characters react to them, not we humble readers. Set in London and a small town outside London, this story follows a young Black girl and her family as they deal with the aftermath of a devastating event. The way these hateful ideologies are woven into the very fabric of elite institutions and society is broken apart and carefully depicted. There were some parts of the book that really made me cringe although this was a good thing as that is exactly what the author was going for in my opinion. London is all Cynthia knows, so when her parents abruptly uproot the family after a traumatic incident, to a place where there is only one bus an hour and the faint smell of horse manure continuously permeates the air, it's a culture shock, to say the least.

She has the support of head boy Thomas and his adopted brother Isaac, the only other black kid at their school. The none so subtle pointing out of white privilege throughout was, at times, mind opening and uncomfortable for me and the tackling of such an important issue, knife crime was done in a responsible and measured way with full explanation and sources of support at the end of the book. But when it turns out both boys have been keeping secrets from her, secrets that link back to the life Cynthia thought she had left behind in London, she realises that not everything is as it seems. but her father wants her to partner up with someone like Thomas, someone who will be 'better for her future prospects'. As much as Cynthia likes Thomas though, she can't help noticing Isaac, the only other black student in her year.
