About this deal

The third person narrative of multiple characters gave the whole book a transparent feel, with no secrets being kept as we gained insight into all their thoughts. The sheer genius of this book is that not a lot of action takes place, the characters are trapped in the Inn, no one can get to them and they cannot get out. Lapena keeps the well-developed twists churning, with each a surprise notch in this ever-evolving plot, and she continues this skillful storytelling until the stunning twist at the end. If the house guest does not respect you enough to leave, you shouldn’t go out of your way to make your home inviting.

It's awkward, yes, but it's really important for the friend to sign a statement certifying that they are indeed a guest, not a tenant or lodger, that they are not paying rent or providing services in exchange for lodging, and most importantly, that you, the owner, can ask them to leave at any time.Everyone goes to bed with hopes of still enjoying their weekend until the next morning when a body is found! The narrator has an odd robotic cadence and I agree with the reviewer who said it was like being read to by Siri. Although, I think the plot itself was lacking so that this would still be a three star read for me regardless.

The Couple Next Door had a lot of dialogue—more of “he said” then “she said” type of dialogue, which at times, began to get hard to read and a bit repetitive with no proper flow to the story, or the characters. This exceptionally well-written novel is all about suspense, thrill and drama, including the relationships between generations and what happens between long-standing friends. If you are constantly in conflict, your friend/relative is taking advantage of you, or you are simply incompatible living partners, then your relationship will only turn toxic if you stay under the same roof. I felt unbothered by the reveal, finding it unsatisfying and not much of a shock due to it coming completely from the blue. But the characters are darker than any you’ll meet in a Christie novel, the atmosphere more chilling and the denouement far more unexpected!

The setting for this is a family-run hotel where our guests go to escape from the world, reconnect within their relationships and unwind. Another letdown is that the characters act all panicked and wacky, which leads to more drama than is necessary. The setting is a remote, old fashioned luxury hotel where guests arrive to spend a relaxing weekend in vintage lavishness. The fourth view is Lauren Day driving with Ian Beeton when they spot a car on the side of the road and stopping to help.In general, try and give at least 1-2 weeks, or until the end of the month, so that they have some time to prepare for their next move. So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity–and all contact with the outside world–the guests settle in and try to make the best of it. So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity--and all contact with the outside world--the guests settle in and try to make the best of it. A group of unsuspecting guests arrive to a snowy, mountain inn for a weekend away from everyone and everything.
