About this deal

Registered office address: Unit 34 Vulcan House Business Centre, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EF. An advocate of British design and arts, Anya is NED of the British Fashion Council and Emeritus Trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts and the Design Museum. From the chic front cover (sunny yellow, with contrasting blue lettering) to the flippant title it feels as though we’re firmly in beach book territory.

Life will always have ebbs and flows and being honest about these and using over communication to ensure everyone is aware of what is happening resonated with me, as often it's through communication (or lack thereof/breakdown in communication) that the problems arise. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The way she described her son's illness making life feel unreal was just one example of human feelings very well described. I am not a big fan of non-fiction, but I occasionally do find myself flipping the pages of a random self-help title. This guide to life consists of the best advice she's received over the years (for context, she's in her early 50s and started her business as a teenager! Sharing a few snippets of what left an impression on me; on decluttering, being your authentic self, selecting who you surround yourself with, humility and a more refreshing one - how COVID changed life in a good way. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. If you’re not into fashion accessories and you’re not interested in becoming an entrepreneur, then please don’t feel excluded.

If, like me, you work for the NHS have one child and no millions then you may wonder how relevant this book is to you. In the early 2000s, she created an it bag that everyone had to have, known as the "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" bag. The book is nothing startling or new and a bit too much about motherhood for me (not to mention slightly middle class) but it was pleasant enough.Perhaps if I was in Anya Hindmarchs friend circle I would have found this relatable or insightful, but it really just felt out of touch. After all, she thinks that children will be fine if they’ve honest, consistent, caring, understanding, listening and supportive parents. As a designer in the branding industry, I thought it was interesting what Anya said about branding, she believes the word ‘brand’ should be replaced with the word ‘behaviour’. She’s frank that being in business is sometimes tough and the only way round it is to get through it. Entrepreneurs are more doers than reading through tons of small print (hat's what you hire lawyers etc for).

From practical tips and quick fixes to profound observations about confidence and creativity, this inspiring handbook will show you how to live a little better - and why sometimes, the answer can be as simple as washing your hair.

And that's because our issues with food aren't really issues with food: they're issues with feelings and emotions, and what food has come to mean to us, whether that's comfort or love or guilt or reward or control or lack of it.

If In Doubt, Wash Your Hair" is her best piece of advice, and the title of her very first non-fiction. Anya's book is just that, so much wisdom, authenticity and above all kindness, which in itself is a lesson to be learnt to apply to all situations. She has since grown it into an award-winning global brand known for its craftsmanship, creativity and sense of humour, including the hugely successful 'I'm Not a Plastic Bag' campaign. She says that there no perfect or exact method of parenting and advises parents to look for an approach that works for them and their children. If you don't take care of yourself first then you won't be able to give your full potential to others including your children.

Something I would like to take forward for work/projects etc is approach each morning as if it's your first day.
